Baptism

Baptism is a powerful and personal moment in the life of a Christ-follower. It is an outward expression of an inward transformation—a public declaration that you have chosen to follow Jesus with your whole heart. At Epic House, we invite all Christ-followers to take this important step of faith.

What Is Baptism

Baptism is a public declaration of our decision to follow Jesus. It symbolizes being united with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. When we go under the water, we acknowledge leaving behind our old life of sin. As we come up, it represents being made new in Christ.
"We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life."
— Romans 6:4

What to Expect

  • Wear dark clothing and bring a towel.
  • You’ll step into the baptismal tank, where someone will ask, "Who do you place your faith and trust in?" If your answer is "Jesus," you will be immersed in water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • You’ll come up from the water to celebration and encouragement from our church family.
  • Afterward, you can dry off, change, and join your friends and family in the service.

Baptism for Youth and Kids

We love when kids and students take the step of baptism! We encourage parents to have conversations with their children about what baptism means and why they want to be baptized.
At Epic House, we believe baptism should be a personal decision, so we wait until children are old enough to understand and choose to follow Jesus on their own. While we do not baptize infants, we offer child dedications as a way for parents to commit to raising their child in faith.

FAQs

How is baptism like Jesus’ death and resurrection?
"Christ died for our sins… He was buried… and He rose again."
— 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
"For when you were baptized, you were buried with Christ, and in baptism you were also raised with Christ."
— Colossians 2:12
Why do we baptize by immersion in water?
Jesus Himself was baptized this way:
"As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water."
— Matthew 3:16
Every baptism recorded in the Bible was by immersion, including Acts 8:38-39.
Who should be baptized and when?
Baptism is for every person who has put their faith in Jesus. The Bible shows that believers were baptized as soon as they made their decision:
"Those who believed and accepted His message were baptized…"
— Acts 2:41
"As they traveled along the road, they came to some water, and the man said, ‘Look, here is water! Why shouldn’t I be baptized right now?’ Philip said, ‘If you believe with all your heart, you may.’ The man answered, ‘I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.’ So they went down into the water and Philip baptized him."
— Acts 8:35-38
There is no reason to delay. If you’ve decided to follow Jesus, baptism is your next step!
What should I wear?
We will provide a black t-shirt for you to be baptized in. Wear dark-colored clothing that won’t become transparent when wet. Bring a towel, a change of clothes, and a plastic bag for your wet items.
Will I have to say anything?
No. A pastor will briefly explain baptism, and when it’s your turn, you will simply confirm your faith in Jesus before being baptized.
Can my friends and family be baptized together?
Yes! If each person has made a personal decision to follow Jesus, families and friends can be baptized together. However, because baptism is an individual act of faith, don’t delay your baptism while waiting for others to join you.
Can I invite my friends and family to watch?
Absolutely! We encourage you to invite loved ones to celebrate this important moment with you.
